Ralph Waldo Emerson said one component of friendship is truth, and another is tenderness. We treat one another tenderly, recognizing that we are all apt to make mistakes. When we hold each other tenderly, the love doesn't change based on behavior. Through demonstrating compassion to others, we find we're able to hold ourselves tenderly as well. And we recognize that we have already experienced tenderness as we are held in the arms of God.
